The core of Ravi Shankar's music has always been the spirituality, which instantly touches the listener.

It was 77 years ago that Ravi Shankar first came to this country. Since then, this musical messiah has worked tirelessly to take the great music of his country to every corner of the earth.

The Ravi Shankar Foundation

For more than 80 years, Ravi Shankar performed, taught, composed, and toured for world audiences. It was through this tireless dedication that he sought to bring the beautiful art and language of Indian Classical Music to the world and to promote peace through music, education and performance. With Ravi's passing in 2012, the Ravi Shankar Foundation carries on this, his most important legacy. Established in 1997, the Ravi Shankar Foundation's objectives are three-fold: educational initiatives to increase awareness of Indian Classical Music and the Gurukal system of learning; preservation efforts to archive and preserve the vast works of Ravi Shankar; and a dedication to East-West world music collaboration projects, in order to support core artistic creativity and freedom.
